Stars & Stripes Mantel

Updated 7/20/10: Linking to the mantel party over at The Stories of A to Z. I know that the 4th of July was a few weeks back. But I still love my patriotic mantel and wanted to share it again. Plus it is still what is on my mantel. I haven't gotten around to doing my summer take 2 beachy one yet. And who knows if I ever will. Stay tuned.

Have you gotten sick of my 4th of July decor? I hope not, as now you get to see what I did with my mantel.

I told you that stars & flags were my theme this year. But only because I have a lot of stars and flag stuff. So this is my Stars & Stripes mantel.

It's hard to remember where I got all the stars from. The red & white one in front was Target dollar spot last year. The iron blue one behind it I've had for years. I think it came from the Welcome Home store at some outlet mall. I miss that store. The larger stars & stripes one I can't remember. The red one on the right was from Terry's Village a few years back. The Uncle Sam box was from Michael's last year.

I love these Uncle Sam's. Especially the ones on the box. I didn't see ones on boxes this year. This year, I only found Uncle Sam on a stick.

The wood flag came from ABC Distributing online last year. I think I paid $5.00 for it. I know it was less than $10 or I wouldn't have bought it. I used my vintage wood measuring tape to make a star. Pretty good for my first attempt at doing this. I need to find me more of these.

The rusty star was a new purchase. I got it this past weekend at Tai Pan Trading. It was free to me as I had a gift card given to me from Tai Pan just for blogging about them. Got to love free money.
The 3 glass vases were a thrift store find a couple of weeks ago. I think they were like 50 cents a piece. I loved them as they have embossed stars at the top. I filled them with some broken shells of some kind that I got from Walmart last year. And placed a tea light candle on top.

I love how this turned out.

On the left side are more stars and another Uncle Sam box from Michael's (last year). The larger red star I got from a local grocery store last year for $2.00. Why did I only buy one? I must have been 1/2 asleep at that time. The white one is the 3rd one that came in a set from Terry's Village. And again, I don't remember where I got the small stars and stripes star. I guess it doesn't really matter since I've had it a few years.

I love how each Uncle Sam is just a little different. As well as the box he is standing on.

Well I hope that you have enjoyed my fireplace mantel. I still need to finish up a banner I am making for the mantel as well. Hopefully I will get it done so I can show you tomorrow.

I promise that will be my last patriotic post. Unless, I get a tablescape done. But I doubt it as I haven't been feeling it this year.

  2. You so tickle me. You haven't been 'feeling it this year', but have done W-A-Y more than I have done, which is nothing, except buy some patriotic decor. Your decorating always looks great. Please tell the Tai Pan people to put a store in NC near Charlotte, near me. Thanks! Happy 4th.

  3. I really like the star you shaped out of the ruler... I would have never thought to do that.

I also liked shopping at the Welcome Home store. I know you get a lot of stuff at the Tai Pan store, but I have never seen one.

Anyway, don't worry about doing a tablescape. You are way ahead of me in decorating for the 4th. With what's going on here lately, I didn't decorate anything!

I enjoyed looking at both of your posts for the 4th. Thanks for sharing.

    Talk to you soon ;)

  4. Well I really wasn't going to decorate at all this year for the
4th but your last post inspired me to throw some different pillows on the couch! Love that star out of a ruler!

No more decorating going to happen here just need to clean the house for when the inlaws(whom I love)come to visit and lovingly take the kiddos back home with them for the week! Yippee!

  6. Hi Kim,

It's all wonderful, and I especially like the way you've incorporated vintage items like the wooden measuring tape (great "star maker!") and the crushed shells in the candleholder jars!

    Have a very happy 4th!

  9. Hi Girlfriend...

Hehe...I can tell you now, this is going to be a long note! I've been doing a little catching up at your place!

Girlfriend, I love, love, LOVE all of your pretty 4th of July decor! I always, always love coming to your place for a visit during the holidays because you decorate the best!!! Seriously though...I don't know how you keep up with changing out all of your decor so often! Hehe! Anyway, I just love it! I especially thought the little cloche you did with the vintage firecracker postcard was sooo cute! Loved how you added real firecrackers to the vignette! I'm going to have to keep that idea in mind...loved it!!!

Now...you know that I have to say a little something about your china hutch's 4th of July decor! Girlfriend, I love your white dishes with the flags swags on them! They're soooo pretty!!! Ohhh...they make for such a beautiful display for the July 4th festivities on your hutch!!! Of course, I guess you know...that you are known for your "infamous" hutch displays...and the change of decor for the seasons/holidays!!! Hehe!

Now...let's talk about your fabulous holiday mantel! Girlfriend, I love it!!! I love your collection of pretty stars and flags!!! They really do make a stunning vignette! Ohhh...and I love how you made a star out of the old wooden tape measure! I'm going to have to keep my eyes out for one of those...they're sooo cool!

Well sweet lady! I'm so glad that you stopped by yesterday to take a peek of my master bedroom redo! I really enjoyed your visit and sweet note!!! Thank you!!! It sounds like you're going to have a wonderful 4th of July...a pool party and BBQ? Yeeeehawww!!! We really don't have special plands. It will just be the two of us. We'll probably grill a steak and go and watch our little local fireworks display! It'll be fun!!!

A Happy 4th of July to you and your sweet family!

    Love ya,

  13. I love it. I think you can get away with red, white & blue the whole year through. The stars are all great and I love the old ruler in the shape of a star. Way too cute.
